Traditional Malaysian Pineapple Tarts – 1 BOX
Pineapple tart is a small, bite-size pastry filled or topped with pineapple jam, commonly found throughout different parts of Southeast Asia such as Indonesia (kue nastar), Malaysia (Baba Malay: kueh tae or kuih tair, Malay language: kuih tat nanas), Brunei and Singapore in various forms.
The pineapple tart was possibly invented back in the 16th century when the pineapple, a fruit native to South America, was introduced by Portuguese merchants to Asia, specifically the Malay Peninsula. A similarly influenced pastry, known as pineapple cake or pineapple pastry, is also found in Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.
The pastry consists of a large proportion of butter and egg yolk, and some corn starch, giving it a rich, buttery, tender and melt-in-the-mouth texture. The pineapple jam is usually made by slowly reducing and caramelizing grated fresh pineapple that has been mixed with sugar and spices, usually cinnamon, star anise and cloves.
Typical shapes include a flat, open tart topped with pineapple jam under a lattice of pastry, rolls filled with jam that are open at the ends, and jam-filled spheres or elongated shapes

We bought two boxes of pineapple tarts, which we would usually only have bought from Malaysia. We haven’t been able to travel there recently, so to be able to buy pineapple tarts that taste exactly the same right here was amazing! We would thoroughly recommend Halal food UK. The delivery was rapid and the pineapple tarts were fantastic – they melted in the mouth. Thank you for a lovely reminder of Malaysia. I’ll definitely be buying again!

Delicious

Taste and flavour of the tarts were ok, however package/delivery arrived in terrible condition and the contents were mostly crushed and in crumbs, probably due to being thrown around in the warehouse or transit. Completely unpresentable and unsuitable for gifting to others.
