Spicy Peanut Dressing (Sambal Pecal)

£2.00

Spicy Peanut Dressing (Sambal Pecal) Spicy Peanut Dressing (Sambal Pecal) is basically a homemade spicy peanut-based salad dressing.  It’s as traditional as you can get. Usually eaten with fresh green vegetables, the dressing adds a burst of heat, crunch and flavour that will keep you salivating for more. It’s a great way to enjoy fresh vegetables, that’s for sure.  You could even have it with cooked rice, satay, steamed shell fish and many more items. How to prepare: Either sprinkle it over vegetables for a crunchy meal OR mix with a little warm water to create a thick peanut-based paste that you can drizzle over salads.  Be a rebel and dip a green apple into some spiciness. It’s that simple to create a memorable Malaysian meal. You will keep wanting it over and over again. You could even use it as a sandwich dressing – how’s that for being exotic and Halal. That’s not all, it is also a protein-packed dressing with a burst of flavour. So it’s healthy too. Onion, Peanuts, Chillies, Dried Anchovies, Dried Shrimp, Salt, Sugar

Let’s make a healthy Asian spicy veggie slaw with Spicy Peanut Dressing (Sambal Pecal)

Ingredients:

  • Carrot, shredded thinly
  • Cabbage, shredded thinly
  • Frozen green peas
  • Bean sprouts, cleaned and washed
  • Tempe, diced into cubes
  • Tofu, diced into cubes
  • Radish, shredded thinly
  • 1 bottle of Spicy Peanut Dressing (Sambal Pecal)
  • Any green vegetables of your choice, roughly chopped
  • Oil
  • Sugar (optional)
  • Peanuts, pounded coarsely
  • Lettuce

Method:

  1. Blanche Carrot, cabbage, bean sprouts, green vegetables and frozen peas in hot water for 1 to 2 minutes. Drain from water and let them sit aside.
  2. Pour some oil and pan fry the tofu and tempe well. Ensure that all sides are cooked. Drain from oil and leave them on a paper towel.
  3. In a large mixing bowl add in the blanched vegetables. Give a good toss.
  4. Add in the pan fried tofu and tempe and mix well too.
  5. Finally add in the Spicy Peanut Dressing (Sambal Pecal) and give a good toss and mix. The amount of spicy peanut dressing to use depends on you. Do a taste test and adjust accordingly with sugar if too spicy.
  6. On a plate, line with some lettuce leaves. Serve the veggie slaw on it. Garnish with some pounded peanuts. Serve immediately after preparing. Enjoy!
