Crispy Love Knots Popiah is the perfect time to share joy and love with family, friends and loved ones. A traditional shrimp floss popiah, given a new look. Made of popiah skin and a handed down from generations recipe of dried prawn floss, these addictive crunchy snacks are awesome savoury treats to be presented on the table during Eid.
Its fillings, made of dried shrimps, dried chilli, sugar, salt and tamarind paste were first ground. The mixture is then fried for up to six hours until it turns into the dried floss. Simpul Kasih / Love Knot is made from a popiah skin cut into eight pieces. Carefully, with nimble hands, each cut up popiah is filled with a thimbleful of dried prawn floss filling before it is rolled and knotted up. These symbol of love are then fried till golden and crisp, cooled and sealed in an airtight container to maintain its freshness. These are ideal gifts for loved ones and they taste equally awesome. POPIAH SIMPULAN KASIH is a crunchy and flavourful snack, that may be eaten at any time. It is delicately made using a popiah skin (spring roll wrapper ). Popiah skin is light and paper-like crepe or pancake made from wheat flour and water. The technique of making these crepes is an art form in itself. If you feel brave enough, these popiah skins are readily available nowadays in groceries stores and supermarkets in the frozen section aisle.
Spring Roll Wrapper
The popiah skin is carefully cut into strips, filled with serunding ikan (spicy fish floss) and gently knotted. The serunding ikan itself is made with boiled and shredded fish cooked with spices. Then, these knotted popiahs are fried. The best part of these knotted popiahs is that they are bite-sized. So, once you start popping one in your mouth you will just continue to crave for more.
The spices and the mouth lingering umami taste leaves a spicy explosion in your mouth.
