Ready To Eat & Cook Sambal Penyet (Spicy Sauce)

Sambal penyet is known for its spicy yet wonderful taste which lingers on your taste buds for a long period of time. It is usually made out of a mixture of Birds Eye Chilli, Red Chilli, Red Onion, Garlic, Dried Anchovies, Sugar, Salt And Food Additive From Permissible Plant Sources. The mixture is then pounded or blended into a paste to be eaten with chicken, beef, lamb or fish. The ingredients may vary from one kitchen to another but the taste is still the same.

For some this is comfort food as it goes well with hot steamed rice, bread, pasta, noodles, fried chicken, beef ribs, lamb and fish. Because of the spicy sauce, the dish Ayam Penyet (smashed chicken) has become so popular worldwide.

Has a shelf life of 2 years. Best stored in the pantry before opening and in the refrigerator after opening.

Sambal Penyet (Spicy Sauce)

The love for Sambal Penyet (Spicy Sauce) has embedded itself into our food culture and now it is part of our local favourite food to eat. It is essentially  a spicy sambal (sauce) that goes well with a piece of smashed crispy fried chicken served with rice and some veggies. Sambal Penyet can be eaten with hot rice, bread or pasta without being re-cooked. Can be re-cooked with favourites like fried fish or fried chicken.

 

Note : This is a just a suggestion. The sky’s the limit when it comes to whipping up something gastronomically new using ingredients that you have in your pantry.

Sambel Penyet Wrap the Asian way

Ingredients:

  1. 1 or 2 large wraps of your choice (plain, garlic, etc)
  2. A few slices of tomatoes
  3. Veggies of your choice (lettuce, rocket, kale, etc)
  4. A few strips of fish fingers or chicken fingers
  5. Sambal Penyet (Use to your hearts desire but don’t over do it as the wrap will get soggy)

 

Method:

  1. Lightly toast the wrap on a saucepan
  2. Spread the Sambal Penyet generously on the wrap
  3. Arrange the greens and tomatoes
  4. Arrange the fish or chicken fingers
  5. Roll the wrap and eat it as a whole or cut it into 2 pieces. Serve immediately after making as the sambal sauce will make the wrap soggy. Enjoy
