Pineapple Tart

£4.00

Pineapple tart or tart nanas is a small, bite-sized pastry filled or topped with homemade pineapple jam. It is commonly made and enjoyed during festive seasons by Malaysians and Asians. The pastry is often buttery and flakey, thus it gives a rich, buttery, tender and melt-in-the-mouth texture. The pineapple jam is usually made by slowly reducing and caramelizing grated fresh pineapple that has been mixed with sugar (white or brown) and spices like cinnamon, star anise and cloves. Typical shapes of pineapple tarts include a flat, open tart topped with pineapple jam under a lattice of pastry, rolls filled with jam that are open at the ends and jam-filled spheres or elongated shape.   Wheat Flour, Sugar, Eggs, Vanilla Essence, Yellow Food Colouring, Homemade Pineapple Jam

The origin of pineapple tart

The origins of the pineapple tart possibly derives from a Portuguese influence back in the 16th century when the pineapple, a fruit native to South America, was introduced by the Portuguese Empire to Asia, specifically the Malay Peninsula.

History of pineapple

Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is an incredibly delicious and healthy tropical fruit. It originated in South America, where early European explorers named it after its resemblance to a pinecone. This popular fruit is packed with nutrients, antioxidants and other helpful compounds, such as enzymes that can fight inflammation and disease. Pineapple and its compounds have been linked to many health benefits, including aiding digestion, boosting immunity and speeding up recovery.

Benefits of Pineapple

  1. Pineapples are packed with a variety of vitamins and minerals. They are especially rich in vitamin C and manganese.
  2. Pineapples are a good source of antioxidants
  3. Pineapples contain bromelain, a group of digestive enzymes that breaks down proteins. This may aid digestion, especially in those with pancreatic insufficiency.
  4. Pineapple contains compounds that reduce oxidative stress and inflammation
  5. Pineapples have anti-inflammatory properties that may boost the immune system.
