Block printed batik was one of the earliest type of batik ever produced in Malaysia. It is a method that uses a block carved with patterns, which is then dipped in wax and stamped onto different types of fabric.  In the early stages, the blocks would be made out of potato but soon realized that the potato would spoil after a few days. Then wood was used but that also didn’t work out because after a few times the wood would eventually break. Finally, the batik trade settled down with using zinc or copper as the block which is still used at the present moment. Making the block to the desired design would take a month. Even so, after the fabric is stamped and the artist is satisfied, there would be a few more processes after that.
